Fantasy Update

The past couple of weeks have been electrifying in the NBA.  We’ve had a fight between the New York Knicks and Atlanta Hawks, Kevin Durant get in the grille of Chris Bosh and the All-Star game roster selections were named.

From a Fantasy perspective however, there’s been the usual suspects going at it night in and night out and some surprise players making an impact in the Fantasy Standings.  With the playoffs seemingly right around the corner, some players are playing out of this world and are carrying their respective teams on their shoulders.  We expect to see the same players year in and year out lead the player rankings and to no ones surprise for the most part this season they are.  But this year unlike others in the past we have seen some new entries atop the player rankings and we’ve seen old veterans re-surface.

We are accustomed to Lebron James, Dirk Nowitzki, Dwayne Wade, Dwight Howard and Chris Paul (to name a few) lead in almost every category…and they are.  We know what we are getting when we draft these players in the first round.  That’s why year in and year out they are always 1st round picks.

What’s surprising this year, is the rise of some players who were expected to be good.  but top tier good?
- Kevin Love – Leading the league in double double’s, who knows what the Wolves record would be without him
- Luol Deng – With the rise of Derrick Rose as a potential MVP candidate, Deng has been able to stay out of the limelight and flourish in Chicago
- Derrick Rose – We knew he was special and was going to be good.  But making Bulls fans forget about the past misery so quickly?? And now he’s an MVP candidate
- Dorrel Wright – Never averaging more than 8 points per game, who could have predicted that he’d be such an offensive weapon and would complement Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry so well?
- Manu Ginobli - Always a threat on the court, Manu has become the #1 option in San Antonio and with his All-Star selection has made him one of the biggest steals in Fantasy Basketball this season
- Kevin Garnett – We knew what we expected out of KG, but a return to his glory years was unexpected.  He’s playing with passion and fire and looks frisky and ready to make a run at the title once again
- Eric Gordon – Playing along side Blake Griffin apparently is contagious as Gordon is playing out of this world and along with Griffin is the anchor behind the future of thew Clippers.
- Steve Nash – Has turned it on and is one of the league leaders in double/double’s once again

As seen by the players above, these players were all mid level draft selections and have moved their way up to top 20 territory.  If they keep their torrid paces up, next year’s draft will be quite interesting as some current top tier players will lose their high ranking in place of these fast risers.
