D-Rose the best point guard in the league, who could argue?

The clear cut front runner for this year’s MVP Derrick Rose continues to excite fans with his stellar play. Today’s victory over Orlando proved once again that the Bulls star can do whatever he wants on the basketball court, scoring 39 points and dishing out 5 assists. Derrick Rose’s play this season has led the Chicago Bulls to the top seed in the Eastern conference with a fighting chance at the overall number one seed. Over the past three to four seasons there has been an ongoing debate over who’s the best point guard Chris Paul or Deron Williams?
This year one would have to add Derrick Rose to the discussion. Let’s not talk about last year or even next year, but this year it is clear that D-Rose is the best point guard in the NBA and it is not even close! He has improved his game by leaps and bounds with the obvious improvement of his jump shot. There was a time would when you could lay off Rose and let him shoot but that is now a thing of the past. It is clear that he got in the gym this summer and worked hard on his shooting as well as becoming a long range three point threat. One thing that often gets missed in any discussion about Rose is the evolution of his leadership skills. The very nonchalant player has become very vocal this year and has led this team from 40 wins last year to 60 wins with just a few games left this season.

We certainly cannot discount what Bull’s coach Tom Thibodeau has meant to this team and Rose. This year’s coach of the year candidate Tom Thibodeau has certainly helped D-Rose’s game. But there are just some things that you can’t coach and leadership is one of them and Derrick Rose has it. He is also a well liked player because of his humble attitude which is rare these days.
The really is not a secret to success otherr than hard work. Many young players can take a cue from Derrick on what it takes to become a better play by working hard in the offseason. There is nothing stopping Rajon Rondo from getting in the gym and improving the Bill Cartwright looking jump shot that he has. The young John Wall certainly has potential for greatness but he needs to improve his shooting. Guys, do not wait until you are past your prime like Jason Kidd to improve your jumper. The nickname that Jason had in his first stint with Dallas was “ason”, because they said he had no J in his name! If Rajon Rondo or John Wall do not develop a serious jumpshot we will be calling them Raon Rondo and Ohn Wall!! It would be unfair for me to just pick on point guards with failing to mention the prominent big man Dwight Howard. Many would agree that Howard has improved his low post ability but not enough to notice like Derricks Rose’s shooting. When I saw Rose in college I did not understand what all the fuss was about. I am now a believer; it is amazing what hard work can do. This guy is a tenacious player and the sky is the limit for his potential. I want to send a message to Deron Williams and Chris Paul, you better step your game up because D-Rose is serious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was another good article. I agree the argument of best point guard just a year ago was a good one. Not anymore. By far Rose is running laps around the points guards in the league today. One important thing you touch on was his leadership skills which has drastically improved this season. When you look back at some of the best point guards from the past (Magic, Stockton, Thomas) these guys were true Generals on the floor. Being a strong general and great point guard leads your team to the top if the pack it’s no mistake that the Bulls whose team core is a great point and good leader is the number seed in a league of top teams that include 2 or even 3 NBA stars on one team.
