Dwight Howard scored a franchise record 46 points in the game

Nelson scored a franchise high 20 points in a quarter

…That’s where the party stops for Orlando Magic

Atlanta won 103-93 despite Howard’s dominance, on the back of a spread of Hawks players, which was what Orlando lacked.

Five Atlanta players scored in double figures and the Hawks shockingly shot 73 percent in the second and third quarters to stun the Magic at the Amway Center despite the franchise playoff records set by Howard and Nelson.

Johnson (Hawks) scored 25 points to J-Rich’s (Magic) 4 points.
Horford’s (Hawks) 16 points to Bass’ (Magic) 0 points
Smith’s (Hawks) 15 points to Turkoglu’s (Magic) 6 points
Crawford’s (Hawks) 25 points to Arena’s (Magic) 6 points

The obvious point that allowed Atlanta to run away from Orlando was that they defended the perimeter and contested as many treys as they could with Orlando shooting 27.3% from the arc, scoring 6-22

All the credit goes to Atlanta for nullifying most of the team with the exception of Nelson and Howard for winning. However Orlando should not be pushing the panic button just yet. Just go back to 2009 – the year Orlando advanced to the NBA Finals – when the Magic lost Game 1 in heartbreaking fashion to the 76ers in the First Round. They even went down 2-1 in that series before bouncing back and finishing Philadelphia off in six games.

Entering Game Two on Monday, Atlanta will be brimming with confidence, whereas it is back to the drawing board for Orlando Magic.
