Hungry for the Championship

Spurs…

Bulls…

Lakers…

Celtics…

Mavericks…

Heat…

Thunder…

They are the teams that are contending for the championships

Trail Blazers…

Knicks…

Nuggets…

76ers…

They are the dark horses of the playoffs

What? No Magic? Well that’s a name I haven’t been hearing in the championship talks lately. Seems that everyone has written them off already…

With injuries piling up, bad form against top teams, ginormous amount of turnovers. I can see why people half already written them off.

But what about Dwight Howard’s MVP worthy season? What about Turk’s amazing form as of late? Nelson’s aggressiveness as the point guard? the team’s collective three point shooting skills? The team’s effort defensively?

Van Gundy has urged the team to pull together a string of wins in the last 7 games

“You can’t just turn it on,’’ Van Gundy warned. “The Boston Celtics can get to day one of the playoffs and turn it on because they’ve been there before, they’ve won a championship and they know what it is. The San Antonio Spurs can do it, the Lakers can do it. But the rest of us can’t do it. We don’t have the background. We don’t have enough guys who have been there and done it. We’ve got to go in playing with great intensity and energy. We’ve got to play at a higher level than we played tonight, we have to. We’ve got to start getting serious about it.’’

I actually don’t want Magic to have a streak…maybe win the next four out of 7 games, because if that happens, everyone will completely write them off, and then Magic will go into the playoffs, with their back onto the walls and with nothing to lose. Then from there they will perhaps play with the passion, intensity and hunger that will lead them deep into the playoffs, with a great chance of winning the first championship for Orlando!

With the injuries piling up, perhaps Magic will win a few games now and feel even more confident when the injured players return. NOW that is a deadly thought!

Speaking of pressure, Gilbert, if he learns to play without pressure, will be huge in the playoffs!

“There’s a lot of pressure on him (Gilbert) because people expected him to come over here and average 20 points and 10 assists, but we don’t need him to do that. He does have a lot of pressure to get healthy, but I know that his knee has bothered him for a long time now,’’ Howard said. “But everybody is on him right now – the media, our own weightlifting guys and he’s feeling the pressure because he wants to do so well. He’s always wanted to be in a Magic uniform since he was little (growing up in Tampa). We’ve just got to support him any way that we can. When I talk to him I tell him to remember our goal, which is a championship. We don’t need him to try and be our savior. Hopefully he realizes that and has a great postseason.’’

Last year Boston was 4th, had injuries in season, had nothing to lose, didn’t end the season in spectacular fashion, yet turned it on in the playoffs and pushed Lakers to Game 7 in the Finals only to lose.

Who is in 4th spot? Magic
Who has a pile of injuries? Magic
Who isn’t ending the season with a streak? Magic

All I can say is, write Magic off at your own peril and look out for Magic!
