Round 1, Game 3 Recap: Celtics vs Knicks

Not much else can be said about the outcome of Game 3 between The Celtics and The Knicks.  With a 113-96 blowout by The Celts, it doesn’t look too promising for New York.

Led by Rajon Rondo and his triple-double with 15points, 11rebounds and a phenomenal 20assists, The Celtics had no trouble disposing of the Knicks in Game 3.  With Paul Pierce exploding for 38 points and Ray Allen draining 8 three-pointers, the helpless Knicks trailed the Celtics for the entire game with the lead at times as much as 20 points.

With an injured Chauncey Billups held out of the lineup once again, and a clearly injured Amare Stoudemire going 2-8 from the field for 8 points, Carmelo Anthony was left to fend for himself.  His 15 points just won’t cut it, especially if they intend on staging a comeback.  A comeback that doesn’t look to promising as the veteran Celtics will look to finish off the Knicks when they play game 4 on Sunday April 24 @ 3:30pm.

On the downside for the Celtics was Kevin Garnett’s performance.  With only 9 points on 4-9 shooting, Garnett looked off of his game offensively.  Defensively however, he was his usual tough self, as he pulled down 12 rebounds and 3 steals.  The Celts are going to need a stronger offensive efforts from both Garnett and starting Center Jermaine O’Neal (6 points) in future games if they plan to advance through the Playoffs.

As for The Knicks, it’s apparent this year’s return to the Playoffs can be chalked up as Step 1 in their return to NBA respectability.  Their learnings this season can be used as motivation for next year.  Knicks President Donnie Walsh will better understand the holes the Knicks will need to fill and the type of player(s) they will pursue in the off-season.

It was initially thought that The Knicks would give the Celtics more competition than they are right now, but unfortunately for New York faithful without a healthy Chauncey Billups in the lineup and Amare Stoudemire playing wounded it looks like this series will end fairly quickly and The Celtics will have time to rest for the 2ndround.
