Mavs to Sign Sean Williams

The Mavericks were finishing up their time well spent in free agency and will finalize their roster by adding former New Jersey Nets first round draft pick, Sean Williams, to add to their front-court rotation. He will be signed to a two-year deal with a partial guarantee for the second season.

Williams should be arriving in Dallas to complete his physical and join the team Wednesday after the Mavs finish up their preseason in OKC.

Williams formerly played for the D-League’s Texas Legends, who are co-owned by president Donnie Nelson.

During the NBA lockout, Williams signed with Maccabi Haifa for this season; but Williams’ agent had successfully negotiated a buyout with Maccabi Haifa’s owner to allow him to join the Mavs.

Williams was the 17th overall pick in the 2007 Draft by the Nets. In the 2010-11 season, Williams played for the Frisco-based Legends and averaged 14.4 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.9 blocks, as well as played in the D-League All-Star game. He was also second in voting behind Chris Johnson to win D-League Defensive Player of the Year.
