Pacers and Sixers should surprise this season

The Pacers and Sixers are two teams that could surprise this season. It would all depend how good a start they could have in a shortened season. The Pacers after switching coaches last season made a late charge to the playoffs and qualified for the eighth seed. This season they signed David West, a former All-Star with the New Orleans Hornets which gives Indiana a formidable front court with West, Roy Hibbert, Tyler Hansborough and Danny Granger. Darren Collison is a point guard with great vision and lightning fast speed. The Pacers front-court also passes very well in the post which leads to great scoring opportunities.

The Sixers have what could be a fun combination of veterans and young players. Elton Brand, Andre Iguodala and Andres Nocioni lead the Sixers with playoff experience and still can contribute average to big minutes in games. The Sixers stable of young players is fantastic–

  • Thaddeus Young is a ‘big’ who improves every year in scoring and rebounding. He averaged 26 mpg last year with 12.7 ppg, 5.3 rpg
  • Evan Turner after an average regular season had a great playoff series versus Miami
  • Jrue Holiday averaged 14 pts, 6 assists, 4 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 35 mpg of play last season.
  • Louis Williams and Jodie Meeks only averaged 25 mpg, but averaged double figures in scoring.

Both teams started off poorly last season but improved late, so gains should be seen in how well they could start the season. The Sixers could challenge the Knicks and the Pacers all season will be pushing the Bulls for the Central Division lead.
