Trailblazers will turn heads in the West

Portland can rise to the top of the West as a contender with their team. But with past Portland teams who ‘dangled potential’ but never delivered, this squad looks like it has the ‘tools’ to win big with gritty, hard working players like Ray Felton, Jamal Crawford and LaMarcus Aldridge. Coach Nate McMillian has succeeded in his tenure as coach to make the TrailBlazers a consistently good team passing the 50 win plateau in the last two out of three seasons. They should push Denver and scrap all season with Oklahoma City for the Northwest division title.

Portland plays good defense and has a formidable front line with LaMarcus Aldridge, Gerald Wallace and Marcus Camby. Raymond Felton, who was instrumental in recharging Denver’s offense last season after the ‘Melo trade will provide the same contribution in his first full season as the Blazers starting guard. Nicolas Batum and Jamal Crawford will provide bench scoring which could win tough games in the ultra-competitive Western conference. The Blazers dropped their first round series to eventual champ Dallas last season, but better seeding whether through winning the division or at worst a five seed would see them waltzing into the second round this year.
